Fishing Investigation

The “Almirante Storni” Institute of Marine and Fishing Biology (IMBPAS) is an investigative organism dependant of the Comahue National University and the Río Negro Province Production Ministry.

It was founded in 1974 to elaborate and develop fish resources investigations in the Río Negro province.

Its goal are to investigate and assess the Provincial Fishing council in fish resource management and the realisation of extension, training and transfer activities in private and government sectors.

The IBMPAS is divided into investigation operative areas that carry out various projects and programmes relates to each other (Evaluation and “demersales” fishing management programme, Evaluation and “bentonias” fishing management programme, Sanitary quality programme, Fishing products certification, On Board Observers programme and sea-culture programme).The institute also carries out teaching in the forms of superior University careers: University Technician in sea-culture and fishing production and post-graduate courses in Marine and Fishing sciences.
