Fishing certificates

Since 2003, a work-team has been developing sustainable management plans in the Bay and MSC certification processes in the fishing of hake, scallops, mussels, purple clams and octopus. The team consists of authorities from the Rio Negro fishing council, representatives from the “Almirante Storni” Institute of Marine and Fishing Biology and members of Argentine wildlife Foundation.

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a worldwide independent organisation that works together to find solutions to excessive fishing.

The MSC certification allows entrance into new markets, thereby expanding the economic yields of the catches without harming the product or habitat. To achieve a vision within a short or long span of time, the team works together to convert the MSC “badge” into an instrument of sustainable regional development.

This iniciative is backed by international organisations like the WWF, the MSC and the SFF-RLF.
