In the epilogue of the beach, towards the south of “Las Grutas” where the cliffs disappear into the sand, suspended by strong props and drenched in flowers, lies Chichita Salas’ inn. An apprentice of her fathers words, “look straight at the sea” and a philosophy of life that shines out of everything she does. Bottle, candle, painting and poster arrangements all carry her personal touch.
In the kitchen of her childhood she came to know the smells and flavours that she serves today with pride on the wooden tables that Alfred build many winters ago. Octopus, scallops, cod, salmon pasties and “cholga” pastas with sea-sauces are prepared under the supervision of Chichita; simple but with a lot of personality.
Besides displaying her cooking secrets, Chichita is a great caretaker of the sands surrounding her inn. It’s usual to hear her reprimanding a careless tourist for dropping litter or other offences “The sea gives everything to my family and me” she says.
