Blue Bay National Celebration
The bays national party is probably the most emblematic.
The celebration lasts for a week and characterises it self with the presence of many local and international artists. Soda Stereo, Divididos, Dyango, José Vélez, Los pIojos and La Renga, just to mention a few of the artists who have performed the nights leading up to the Bay Queens coronation. Along with various gastronomic, sporting and regional events, it becomes a very inviting affair! The object of this party is to bring together touristis and residents alike and share and enjoy the distinct cultural voices.
The 6 hour Silversmelt
The 6 hours of the Silversmelt party is probably the more traditional. It started out as a fishing competition with the complement of a musical show or dinner with friends where all these “rod and tackle buddies” get together every October and share special moments with family and friends. The contest takes place on the “La Cochilla” beaches near to Ultramar port. It’s privately organised each year by the nautical, social and fishing club.
More recently, the tide party and the Fishermans party will take place and they are tributes to the fishermen and fish-gutters in which the local council organizes festivals.
